Sprawl and Your Health
September 28, 2004
A report released yesterday confirmed what many urban planners have been claiming for the past few years - sprawl is unhealthy for people who live in it. Here’s a link to a CNN article about it, check it out.
The report states that, on average, people who lived further and further from a city core were much more likely to become sick, have arthritis, and so forth. It also indicates that city dwellers can add four years to their lives, theoretically, over sprawl dwellers. This just reinforces my desire to live as close to downtown Holland as possible… providing I find a job in town.

Brandon said on October 6, 2004 11:51 PMThis is becoming a decent little Holland blog. Far better than my now-inconsistent one, and I'll admit writing for Arbor Update has taken a toll on my personal blog's output and quality, even if stories get more readership that way. So why haven't many random West Michiganders found this thing yet? Do they just not use the internet much over there? Seems like Goodspeed, AAIO, and a few other Ann Arbor weblogs got a good random readership pretty painlessly by providing consistent, frequent output. Maybe it's a matter of time, or maybe your small market will be tough to crack.
