Moore

October 08, 2004

I suppose my past couple posts have moved away from West Michigan issues, but, in a way, anything involving the Republican Party is an issue in West Michigan.

The state Republican Party is asking four county prosecutors to file charges against Michael Moore for bribing students to vote. He gave away underwear and other various gag gifts to students who pledged to vote, be it their first time or not. Certain Republicans therefore called it a crime, vote-buying.

Don’t we have bigger fish to fry at the moment? Underwear is not too much of an incentive to get people to vote. Maybe if it was election day I’d care more, but we’re a month from the election. Republican Party leaders in this state are disconnected from the real world. Betsy DeVos is always complaining about Granholm - it’s a media bitch-fight sometimes. The leaders asking prosecutors to file charges against Moore are only increasing his political power, not diminishing it. Why can’t they see that?

The Republican Party needs a drastic change.

And he is only getting people to REGISTER, not telling them who to vote for. Jeez. Conservatives are looking pretty anti-Democratic lately, if you've seen the latest Michigan Review, too. And Betsy DeVos needs to seriously relax... she's making a fool of herself constantly.

Brandon, are you talking big D or little d democratic? (e.g. the party or the institution?) After all, conservatives have been anti-Democratic for quite some time now. :)

Paul, I'm curious as to your take on this election. Yes, you're one of my token Republican-identifying friends, and the only other one I've asked has been in anybody-but-bush mode for years...

Oops... you're right, Murph. Small d.

I'm sick of almost every aspect of this election. I'm definately not a solid Bush fan, especially when considering his environmental record. Kerry irks me in more general ways, more along the lines of his approach to government in general, and his tax policy... I voted McCain back in 2000, and I will never fully support Bush... Maybe we can't always expect the perfect election, but one can home that someday my perfect candidate will arise.
