New Specs

Where do I start…?

I received new glasses today, after an unfortunate incident in Texas involving Christa’s elbow and my face. Really, I have to ask, how on earth could titanium glasses just crack like that? Oh well, I’ve got new glasses that look good.

The house is shaping up, as is the yard. The background is growing fast, too much for me to catch up with. One annoying part of the backyard is the large pecan tree in the neighbor’s yard. It has been dropping these stringy things for a few weeks now, and they’re covering almost all of the new landscaping.

The water fountain already needs a little repair… I never really made sure that the hole where the piping comes in was sealed well. A project for this weekend I suppose.

We’re ready for our first real campfire in the backyard. I hope we get some rain soon, because if we don’t, I’m afraid that the burn ban will be reinstated. Here’s hoping!

Christa and I get married in 22 days… June 17, here we come!

Work has been going very well. My immediate supervisor was promoted from GO Bond Program Manager to Assistant City Engineer. She’s keeping her position as the GO Bond Program Manager, but taking on the management of four other departments. What’s in it for me? More responsibility to bring in my projects on time, and less involvement from her.

Also, yesterday I was asked to write a job description (three actually) for a person who would be under my supervision. The person would be responsible for updating the Public Works GIS data, which is outgrowing me. It started with one layer, and will be expanding to another one very soon, and I see it going much further. We’ve only scratched the surface when it comes to GIS (at least in Public Works). The job descriptions I wrote went from highest choice (experienced, bachelor’s degree, etc.), to minimally acceptable (no experience, associates degree, etc.). We’ll see what happens with it.

I don’t know how it’s happening, I don’t believe it’s on purpose necessarily, but I have been assigned to manage many of the more politically-involved projects. It’s fun and a little intimidating, but I love it.

Enough about me, how’s everyone out there?
