Looking Back (A Week or Two)

June 25, 2007

There is never enough time when we’re on vacation. With so many things to do and so many things to see, we always find our selves busy when we’re in Michigan or almost anywhere else we’ve gone. This most recent trip was fantastic – sunny skies, good food, fun day trips, family, and friends. Below are a few highlights of our trip:

New states visited – Arkansas (Paul), Tennessee and Kentucky (Christa)

New sites seen – Lincoln’s birthplace, boyhood home, and final resting place; Churchill Downs (from the outside); State Capitols in Nashville, Tennessee and Springfield, Illinois; Kentucky Railway Museum; Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee (the site of the assassination of MLK Jr.); Windmill Island (for both of us really, I last went in 4th grade); the musical fountain in Grand Haven (for Christa); The Meyer May House (Christa almost cried at its beauty); the Merchandise Mart in Chicago; Jackie’s Place Restaurant; and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri

Places visited again – Chicago (by train); The Holland Museum (great new artwork!); The Curragh; The Windmill; Boatwerks; Captain Sundae (had my first Tommy Turtle – seriously); Frederick Meijer Gardens; and JP’s; amongst other things

Many things done – cabbage ball; dutch horse shoes and hanging out at Abby and Mike’s; STS night at the Walcotts; lunch along the Chicago River; bought a pair of wooden shoes for the mantel; family cookout; rode Sea Doos; took the boat for an early morning spin; spent time at a wonderful wedding; and undertook random urban exploration in Memphis, Nashville, Bardstown, Louisville, and St. Louis

Things we didn’t do enough of – hang out with the family; see other old friends; hang out by the lake; and see the friends we did see

Not to worry though – we’ll be back again
